WHAT IS A FORAGER MAT FOR ?

Our Tuft Forager Mats commonly called 'snuffle mats' are a fun enrichment mat to engage your pets natural snuffling and foraging instincts to sniff out treats in the tufts of fleece

HOW DO YOU USE IT?

Pals who are new to nosework begin by Stage 1, let your dog watch you load the mat with treats scattering loosely over the top.  Use your regular commands such as 'wait' and then 'take it'  point out the treats with your finger to encourage snuffling 
Stage 2 this time load the mat on a table and bury treats further into the tufts so they are harder to find.  Use the same regular commands that work for your pal.
Stage 3 load the tuft out of site first ! 
If your dog is already used to nosework, skip the first stages.

HOW DO I WASH A TUFT MAT?

You can easily handwash or machine wash your Tuft.

Shake your mat out well to make sure any hidden treats drop out.

Machine Wash by popping the mat inside a laundry bag or old pillow case . Add one or two towels to the wash cycle . 

Hand Wash by placing in your sink or shower cover with water add a regular clothing washing liquid and agitate a little with your hands, drain water, rinse well.

Place in a sunny spot to dry naturally

Fluff out the tufts with your hands and ready to go!

We recommend handwashing to extend the life of the tufts

WHAT SORT OF TREATS SHOULD I USE?

Always use dried food treats as wet food will stick to your mat and make a mess
Any of your dogs favourite bite sized treats will be great, or snip larger dried treats into small pieces

CAN I FEED ALL MY PETS MEALS WITH IT ?

Of course. If you feed a dried food diet. We do not recommend any wet food material to be used with a forager mat.
A tuft forager mat similuates a more natural forage, find and eat relationship with food for you dog and will help you slow down a greedy gobbler.  This can help with bloat associated with speedy eating !

DO DOGS TRY TO FLIP IT AND THROW IT AROUND?

Generally no, but with some larger dogs they will get sneaky and want to try to flip the tuft. Use your commands such as 'leave it' to train your pal the way to play this puzzling game the way its designed! Supervision and training will put an end to flip and throw behaviour.

I HAVE TWO DOGS CAN THEY SHARE THE MAT?

With any feeding scenario, two good pals could get protective while foraging in the Tuft.  In some packs sharing works out fine, others might have a tuft each, or take turns

CAN CATS SNUFFLE AND FORAGE TOO?

Cats love Tuft Mats too! When you order your Cat Tuft, we will mist with  a natural Catnip spray. Catnip is another fun enrichment to use with your Tuft try loose catnip or mist with a spray version.  Cats like to snuggle in a Tuft and you can place it inside their cat basket too.

WHAT ABOUT GUINEA PIGS AND RABBITS?

The answer is yes! And we have a mini tuft 'PIGLET' perfect sized for guinea pigs.  Snuffle mats are fun games for your mini pals but once again we do recommend supervision to tuft time as Guinea pigs and Rabbits will certainly naw and nibble the tuft when left unattended.

WHAT ABOUT FOR OLDER DOGS?

yes! your senior pal may find fetch too difficult these days, but his nose loves to play ! perfect enrichment for seniors and assists in keeping  cognitive function strong!

DOES TUFT COME IN DIFFERENT SIZES?

Currently Tuft can be purchased in Standard or Piglet size ( piglet is for guinea pig pals )  A larger Tuft is on its way soon for larger dogs

CAN MY PET SLEEP ON A TUFT MAT?

This depends on how chewy your pal is. We recommend supervised use of a Tuft mat. The cotton fleece can cause blockages in the digestive tract if your pal decides to spend his day nibbling the tufts. Tufts are designed for supervised snuffling of treats. Although they are durable and sturdy, they are not indestructable !
